WHAT BEING A WEDDING PLANNER IS REALLY LIKE

WHAT BEING A WEDDING PLANNER IS REALLY LIKE

WHAT BEING A WEDDING PLANNER IS REALLY LIKE

Every year we receive hundreds of applications for internships from young women who want to become a wedding planner.

We also have learned through experience that we need to be really thorough with whom we choose for the internship mainly because young women have different views of what exactly is involved in being in the wedding and event industry.

We would like to give you our perspective on this field as so many of you want to learn what this industry is all about. We don’t plan on being too detailed but just enough information to know if you still want to follow this path or maybe this is not for you.

Wedding and event planning is a very detail-oriented—and sometimes emotionally intense—career choice. There are no industry-standard business hours. There are no holidays. We rarely have a free weekend. And we work when clients hire us to work.

As much as we would love to tell you that what you see in the movies about planning a big day for your clients, unfortunately this is not the case. This career, although extraordinarily fulfilling and satisfying in so many ways, is also a very stressful and exhausting business.

We are going to mention only a few general points that we have to always face when we deal with clients, potential clients and couples.

Random Calls and Emails

Although we love each and every one of our clients, there are some issues when it comes to what they think is an emergency 🙂

We are being called and emailed every single day from morning to the next morning and there is always something urgent that cannot be delayed … this is from our client’s perspective.

We do have a limit to our working hours but we do try to reassure them everything will be resolved in a timely manner.

Working Long Hours

Avalon Events is not just another wedding planning company. We are based in Monaco and we provide our clients the most luxurious experience of their life. Whether its a wedding, a party or a corporate event, we make sure that everything runs smoothly and without any issues.

In order for us to provide top tiered events, we must work extra, that also includes working late at night and getting up really really early. We never complain about this but we are exhausted.

Keeping Everything on Hand

Sometimes, planners even need to have a back-up plan for some of the bride’s planning decisions. We have to always be the reasonable ones before and on the big day. We cannot let our emotions, or the bride’s emotion get in the way of decision making, so as planners, we need to be very realistic and on point.

Being the Bad Guy

Wedding planners are used to being the “bad guy.” From harassing a rental company until they go back and get the correct chairs the bride ordered, to having to enforce whatever rules the bride and groom want to be observed on their big day (no pics at the wedding, no social media posting, etc.) this is essentially what we have to always do!

So what is your opinion after reading this? Still interested? Let us know.

WHAT WE LOVE ABOUT THE WEDDING INDUSTRY

WHAT WE LOVE ABOUT THE WEDDING INDUSTRY

WHAT WE LOVE ABOUT THE WEDDING INDUSTRY

We are so proud to say that we have been in the wedding and event planning industry for about 20 years now and 10 years since Avalon Events Organisation was born. And we have learned so much from this career.

And because so many of you read our blog posts every week we thought that you would enjoy this one too. We would like to share a few of the most important things that we absolutely love about the planning industry.

1. 100% UNIQUE

No two couples are alike, so no two weddings are alike. We love that we’ve been able to meet such a diverse group of people, and help put together so many different events that reflect their very own unique vision for the wedding!

We love this aspect of this industry. Everything we organize and plan is customized according to the client’s requests. Nothing gets copied or over used here.

Everything we do here at Avalon Events Organisation is done with love and appreciation of you – the client.

2. CHALLENGES

Finding solutions to challenges is what we boast about.  We have a saying here at Avalon Events Organisation: If there’s a way, there’s a will!

Wedding planning isn’t always a walk in the park; problems arise, but we love finding solutions!

3. RELATIONSHIP

We believe in serving well and we like getting to know who we work with. We love that we get to know the special couples and even their families!

From Save the Dates to Programs, our relationship can span over more than 3-6 months.

4. THE COLLABORATION

You already know this but we love our vendor collaboration and professional relationship that we have achieved in our 20 years since we work in this field.

When there is a wedding to be planned and executed, all vendors come with their best efforts and their unique take on the table so everything will look perfect for the big day,

5. IT IS WHAT WE BELIEVE IN

There’s something really special about being a part of something this important – and seeing it come to life, from brainstorming to show time is truly a fulfilling feeling!

We believe in love and marriage and we are honored to play a small part in such a beautiful display and celebration!

THE GRAND BALL OF PRINCES AND PRINCESS

THE GRAND BALL OF PRINCES AND PRINCESS

THE GRAND BALL OF PRINCES AND PRINCESS

The Fairytale Event

We are beyond excited to be a part of this glamorous event and we already gave you a sneak peek on our social media last week. We also promised you some more details about the event and we knew that writing it in a social post will not be enough.

So we decided to do some blog posts about the Gala so you know what it is and what to expect; whether you decide to attend or just be informed about it.

And because we would never rise up to the Gala’s glamourous standard explaining in our own words to you what fascinating this event will be, we will give you an excerpt from a presentation made for it, written by professionals.

“An event bursting with glamour will take place in the striking Monaco, at the gorgeous venue that is the Hôtel de Paris Monte-Carlo: a luxury address in the Casino Square. This will be a splendorous event that must be experienced first-hand: the gala will fall nothing short of magical, a real-life fairy-tale that will immerse guests in a dream space. Celebrating Valentine’s Day with this glorious event is a once-in-a-life time experience, unforgettable for any guest, a really momentous evening for royalty. Sophistication, elegance, and ineffable aesthetic will fill the upcoming Ball of Princes and Princesses. It will be an exclusive Gala for lovers of luxury and

grand parties, for whom this is a truly unmissable occasion. This one night will predictably outshine any other glamorous parties with its romantic aura.

The exclusive event will delightfully blend the romance of the most romantic day of the year with the superb royalty of Monaco, resulting in the most exciting evening of the winter.

The Grand Ball of Princes and Princesses is the setting of a second-to-none amazing show.

Extraordinarily outstanding artists, top performers, singers, and dancers will grace the eyes and hearts of the thrilled guests, who will enjoy a splendorous, opulent display of craft, reaching the peak of the evening. Heavenly melodies, grandiose dances and thrilling performances will take the fortunate guests inside a dreamlike sphere of their compelling Valentine’s gala. As the air will shine with a halo of love and rapture, the evening will truly feel like entering a fantasy fairy-tale land.

Hôtel de Paris Monte-Carlo thus became a favoured place for Princess Grace. In 1956, on the occasion of her wedding to Prince Rainier, dinner was served in this prestigious establishment, which prepared the wedding cake for the official reception. 20 years later, Prince Rainier and Princess Grace celebrated their wedding anniversary, this time in the intimacy of the hotel’s wine cellars. In 1974, Hôtel de Paris Monte-Carlo honoured with big pomp the 25th anniversary of the reign of Prince Rainier.”

Who is ready to join us on this magical day? We are waiting for you.

Tickets to be sold by Noble Monte Carlo by clicking HERE. Or you could send us an email for more information about the event.

Can’t wait to see you there!

3 THINGS YOU CAN ONLY DO ON A WINTER WEDDING

3 THINGS YOU CAN ONLY DO ON A WINTER WEDDING

Since fewer weddings take place during these chilly months, yours will naturally stand out, and there are so many wonderful ways to embrace the season!

Here are our top 3 things you can get away with if you plan on getting married in the winter season:

1. Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow....

So yes, think about this: Make it snow as you walk down the aisle or during your couple’s first dance together.

We promise you it will look MAGICAL!!!

2. Behind the Bar. Heat it UP!

Winter drinks are the best! Think about Hot-Chocolate Bar with different mix ins: candy canes, marshmallows, cinnamon + alcohol to enhance the flavour!

3. Free Decor for Everyone

If you plan on getting married around the winter holidays, chances are the venue is already filled with themed decorations so you will only have to fill in the gaps, like centerpieces and flowers here and there. So WIN-WIN!

Behind the Scenes of a Wedding Planner

Behind the Scenes of a Wedding Planner

behind the scenes of a wedding planner

Ever wonder what it would be like to have the glamorous life of a wedding planner and helping cute couples tie the knot?

Well,  we have the inside scoop.

1. IT IS NOT LIKE YOU SEE IT IN THE MOVIES

You may have watched movies like the “Wedding Planner”, “27 Dresses”, or even “Revenge of the Bridesmaids”, which makes wedding planning seem a lot more glamorous and exciting than it actually is.

You have to think of wedding planning as a business. In today’s age, you need to market your company and be on top of your social media game in order to get customers and keep up your reputation.

There is a lot of work involved and most of it is contacting different vendors and assisting with contracts and Banquet Event Orders. While you do get to see many different venues, you will learn to hate driving far distances as part of your work. Also, I hate to break it to you but you will most likely not be at the cake tasting with your clients. You will direct them where to go, set up the appointment, and then they will report to you later on which cake they chose.

2. CONNECTIONS ARE NEEDED

Just like any business, your success relies on your connections. In the wedding planning world, everyone begins to know everyone in the industry. You have to be familiar with all of the different locations in your area, wineries, caterers, bakers, florists, DJs, and tent rental companies in the area.
Over time, you will get to know the work method of all these different places and attend a lot of open houses and bridal shows. Bridal show season will make you very busy, especially on weekends.
So connections are essential in this business. You have to know managers, you have to know different people at the city hall, you hav eto get different permits so wedding planning involvs a lot of logistics 🙂 sorry 🙂

3. WEDDING PLANNING IS NOT FOR EVERYONE

Let’s be honest here: wedding planning business s not for everyone. Not every old stay-at-home-mom can do this job.
First of all, you need to be a planner. If you’re not an organized person, you will never be able to put together a whole wedding, never mind juggling 4 or 5 weddings at once. Your job is to make sure your clients are on the right timeline in wedding planning and keep track of all the details for them. In addition, your company will not be just wedding planning but corporate events, too.  You need to have a strong, take-charge personality in this business because you’re going to have to be the go-to person who organizes the bridal party, wedding rehearsal, setup, and clean-up on the wedding day. Lastly, you need to be able to give advice to your couples, which brings me to my next point.

4. YOU WEAR MANY HATS

This business require wearing many different hats. The biggest thing we learned during the many years we have done this is we often have to play couples counselor. Many times, wedding planning brings up arguments between couples and as the wedding planner, you have to help them compromise. You have to be the mediator with mothers trying to take charge, divorced parents not agreeing to sit near each other, and bridesmaids being difficult. Your job is to stand up for the bride and groom since it is their day.

At the end of the night, your job still isn’t done as you have to make sure the clients tip and the venue is properly cleaned up before you leave.
